Allen Kai-Lang Yu-One Shared Destiny
Allen Kai-Lang Yu can paint you a pretty picture with his piano music. It is like hearing a whole new perspective through the beauty of the elegant instrument. Each song is a ballad, but weaves through different fibers that culminate into something beautiful and essential. His single One Shared Destiny is a masterpiece, of feeling and fate. The instrumental balance that Allen Kai-Lang Yu can bring to his songs is otherworldly. Softly, his vocals enter and create the atmosphere of love he is able to recreate almost effortlessly. Parallel to the melody, his tune also moves while still describing that beautiful feeling of eternal love. As he sits in for production as well, he creates an essential balance of all that is there for you to hear. It is perfectly tuned to his expressive voice, modulating and meandering through the weight of the words. The violins create the additional rich tapestry that a song like this would need. Higher pitch moments seem to be no strain for Allen Kai-Lang Yu, making a powerful and moving single with his intensive skill. Painting so many rich pictures, he recognises the strong points of his song and continues to spread joy and positivity through his music. Habenera and Mountain Mist are his crowd favourites, and how couldn’t they be? His latest album Winds of Change is worth listening to in one sitting, a heavy and emotional collection of songs. This song would be a perfect fit in the 2016 movie Lion, which shifts through so many powerful emotions. Listen to Allen’s song above, and follow him for more like this!
Allen Kai-Lang Yu - Cityscapes
Allen Kai-Lang Yu brings out the wondering and curious children in all of us as we listen to his latest composition- Cityscapes. It is in collaboration with Victor Hugo Morales. They have created magic with this number! Also, there is something so special about listening to piano music during this time of the year. It brings out the classic Christmas spirit from within for all of us. The track is part of his album The Winds Of Change and the entire album is in collaboration with Victor Hugo Morales. The track has a gentle start that feels like a good set-up. It almost feels like the duo dropped us in a whole new world and the first section allows for us to steady our feet and get ready for the brilliance that is about to come. What Allen and Victor have brilliantly produced is a cinematic number. It gives us a blow-by-blow depiction of the world they create with just their piano. It is truly wild just how many emotions and images can be produced by just one instrument and the many layers and textures that are uncovered when two artists collaborate. The track could so easily fit into a Studio Ghibli film. There is something so warm and cherry blossom-y about the track. It would fit so well into Kiki’s Delivery Service, you can hear what Kiki see as she is on her delivery job. How unique and amazing music is, it allows us to see the world through someone else’s eyes. Allen Kai-Lang Yu and Victor Hugo Morales have done some outstanding work. Allen Kai-Lang Yu-Winds of Change
Allen Kai-Lang Yu might have written the soundtrack of your dreams. A prolific musician who communicates through his instrumental genius, he has composed several pieces that will tantalise your thoughts while still creating a self-sufficient picture of emotion. This is his album with Victor Hugo Morales, Winds of Change. His songwriting stems from real incidents and places, as much as it is just the music. Trained musicians have the ability to draw themselves out into many forms of expression. The opening song called Whispers of the Wind is sufficient to understand this. Though a classical aura is expected, the song hums with the joyous melodies of pop culture and has that very zeal. You could very easily picture a Studio Ghibli movie utilize this to its maximum potential. It is merry, cheery and yet has a colloquial ability. Tango Fantasia tunes into the high-spirited musical moments of a tango delight. The phrasing is particularly interesting to note on a song like this, as much as there are other layers. All of this is on a piano, yet it seems like there are several layers being explored through the piano. Softer reveries are felt in Peoples and Traditions. It has a happy, gleeful imagery of people enjoying each other's company, coming together, and has a root melody in something you have heard before. A Disney like aura spreads in A Fairy’s Tale. The way Allen Kai-Lang Yu composes makes him such a stellar musician, many don’t realise. As one singular instrument behaves as the atom for change, you can feel all the textures falling in place and coming together. Instrumental haven to consider What comes next is the skyline of a beautiful city. Cityscapes is a single we have reviewed before, but there are so many words to be said about it. It has that jazzy undertone of a Manhattan walk or Tokyo in December. There is enough soul and magic in it to last a lifetime. The serene soundscape of Pastoral River make the solemn memories flip around. Allen Kai-Lang Yu utilizes his superb skill to write something heartfelt and memorable. His entire album is a showcase of not only his skill, but to write songs that listeners will remember forever. Most people aren’t trained musicians. Yet, a repeated hook, simple song construction with an easy flow is what people will remember now and for a long time to come. This is the approach by Allen Kai-Lang Yu, and the result is nothing short of heavenly. I feel this would be perfect in a movie like The Wind Rises (2013), by Studio Ghibli. Though there are songs that would be off edge, most of the album fits in here with a precision and feel like no other. Listen to more by Allen Kai-Lang Yu above and follow him for more like this!
