Wade In The Water in general is a beautiful song but Yona Marie brings so much meaning to this number, especially during these troubling times. The track is silky smooth on the ears, her voice seeps in and spreads across our chest, like roots. These roots are filled with an easy rhythm that goes up and down with your lungs, becoming the very air itself within you. Something about this song brings out the old-school poet in you and this paired with Marie’s voice, puts you in a trance.Â
Marie follows this new trend of music, specifically pop and rap where they add sections of recorded conversation and to the number. We then hear Marie smoothly make her way to the performance. The jazz in this track is pure honey to a sore throat, it feels like heaven. And much like that honey, Marie cleanses our souls as well. We hear the sounds ebb and flow, giving us a taste of the journey with just her jazzy voice. While I don’t know if she based this cover of the song on any other Wade In The Water, she seems to have made this song her own and she does this with so much swagger and grace.
This track would work unbelievably well in God Omens. First of all we must mention the killer chemistry between David Tennant and Michael Sheen, this song would work literally in any closing scene from the series. Yona Marie brings the church to our doorstep with this beautiful rendition of Wade In The Water. She is all set to do more such revolutionary work.
