Movment are a band that have tried their own twist in rock. From their first album release, it was evident that the gravity with which they recorded music was very different. However, it is an alternative rock that aims to connect with people, follow a theme and explore the depths of tone, rhythm and style. This is their latest album, Reinvention.Â
You can expect a lot of change in this album from their last release. Transformation had a lot of hard rock tones to flow through, and this is a sinister mystery in many ways. You’ll feel their garage rock experience to be something that is unique. There is a real meal to have in each of their songs. Riffs aren’t like the ordinary, dissonant guitar tones aim to throw you off. There is a hint of metal in riffs like Crawl Back Inside. These aren’t your standard blues scales, you feel like they have been handed the devil’s tonal chart.Â
One of my favourite openings comes from their song Existence. It has a real doom feel to it, and they really know how to churn out emotion from it. The creepy aura seems to wrap around you like a blanket of sonic shock. There are a lot of subtle tonal harmonies going on in the background that know how to reverberate with that same energy. Changing the fabric of tonality in their guitar rhythm, Movment know exactly how to create the aura they are going for.Â
That essence of doom
An industrial rock epiphany is visited with their song called The Light Goes Out. You feel like you’re in Marilyn Manson or Rammstein land. They communicate with this digital discord, almost setting a science fiction, dystopian setting to get absorbed into. This group of musicians don’t just make this music, they feel it, just like we do.
Take Hold is one of the best from this Irish band. The sudden change in tempo, the resonating harmonies and sudden guitar shifts is what makes their music unlike any other band. They find inspiration in a lot of bands, maybe, but only one band can sound like Movment. Simple riffs like the one in Don’t Let Go are also reminders that maybe layering isn’t the key to their unique sound. Here, octave harmonics do the job just as effectively, making sure their lyrical essence is brought out in its true form.
I Had To Do It just shows us how this band can bring you into the theme with such stellar songwriting. The darkness they harness makes them verbose, stylish and one of a kind in making music. Their other two albums are must listens, so make sure you listen to Broken Down and Tranformation to hear tales never told. The 2011 movie Unknown would be perfect for this album, spread throughout some pretty explosive sequences. Follow them on their socials and listen to the album in the links above!
