Doris is the electro-pop spring that keeps on giving. They never run dry of fresh ideas and themes, Storm Doris, their new album is the perfect example of that. Doris dropped this fresh album earlier this year and you are not ready. They blend shoe gaze guitar playing with electrifying beats. The entire album is neatly assembled within a single genre but each number stands out, each with its own style and flair.Â
Storm Doris Dies Down
The album begins with Down, a beat that gets underneath your feet and into your heart and gets you moving like no other. The elaborate intro section works to the song’s advantage, it helps set the tone for the songs that are to come. Doris has a strong guitar section that acts as the perfect opener for the band’s latest release.Â
Supernatural Sex
The song Supernatural Sex, begins with a bell tolling, creating such explosive imagery. The track has incredible instrumentals. The entire time we hear Doris’s lead singer’s voice just barely above the instrumentals. Almost creating an immersive experience that makes you want to lean in and hear what she is trying to say. This particular track has this odd ominous effect to it as she speaks of herself as a ghost.Â
Under The Sun
The chill vibe comes to an end with Under The Sun. This was my favourite single from the album that has so much going for it. Right from the instrumentals to the vocals to the beats, everything is incredibly seamless. Under The Sun shines with its keys, strings and a humming drum that keeps everything in check. They truly saved the best for last, it is a spice box of beat arrangement. It begins with non-synth keys. This is already different from the rest of the tracks as it is all electrified in the beginning. It acts as a nice cushion to settle in before the incredible strings, have their solo within the song.Â
A film that surpassed everyone’s expectations is Zombieland. While it has a star-studded cast, it also has the most well-written quirky scenes that make each and every character colourful. Considering Doris was a band that was conceived in a time of chaos. It only seems fair that it plays in the film that results in unexpected friendship. Each and every song has the potential to elevate the scenes in the film, ironically or genuinely adding emotions to a scene. Â
We can very confidently state that the first album by Doris is truly a success with every aspect of it shining. With its haunting beat structure and vocals that leaves you wondering what comes next? If you’re looking for a powerful and emotive album that will leave a lasting impression, Doris is most definitely worth checking out.
