1Etim-Inyang
Architectural Technologists by day, singer by night. Nigerian singer/ songwriter Etim-Inyang is arguably the most versatile underground artist. He has a penchant to combine diverse musical styles to create beautiful soundscapes with a universal appeal. However, his listeners have noticed an RnB approach to his work, even when not working with contemporary RnB sounds. Regardless, his lyrics showcase his vulnerability with heartfelt renditions that instantly connect the listener to the artist and his spirit. He has been quoted numerously saying: “I want to be the voice of the voiceless”.
His artistic vision and sound palettes are inspired by his childhood memories of his father casually singing whilst playing the guitar and the classics his grandmother often listened to on blast. In addition to the guitar, Etim-Inyang also plays the clarinet and saxophone which he learnt in school and university respectively. With an understanding of melodies, he often came up with random choruses which he never developed further. For a while, he did not see a need to complete any song as he never thought he was good enough or considered a career in music. But as he got older, he decided to block all the noise and do the one thing that has always made him happy.
