Kent based Indie-pop artist CHARLES HS is launching his first project of his 2023 campaign in the form of ‘Moonlight / Black and White’. Ahead of a jam-packed year of releases and an EP set for release in early summer, Charles has decided to start the year with a more reflective, philosophical sound. Written, recorded, mixed and mastered by himself from his home bedroom, the 20-year-old independent artist is as raw and emotionally vulnerable as he has ever been in this newest project. He addresses the feelings of sadness and the longing for escapism as he faced the hardest point in his life up to date. “I was feeling tired and alone and wanted to go back to a place of happiness and nostalgia, I felt trapped” said Charles when asked about the lyrics to the tracks. When questioned on the concept of love that is heavily referenced in Black and White, he said, “I’m a hopeless romantic and I believe in true love just like you see in movies. I know it’s corny but I believe in it, always have done”.
Charles is bravely opening himself up to the world in this project, he wants people to understand that vulnerability is necessary, it helps build character. After the success of his previous two singles ‘Tired Eyes’ and ‘Dandelion’ and with a growing community of followers on TikTok and Instagram, the youngster is making it his mission to show young people their self-worth and make a difference in society. His first step is by showing it in the form of his music and that it’s okay to not be okay and that adversity is a step in the direction to greatness.
