1Aldís Fjóla
From rock we were born, to rock we will return. The musicians that inspired Aldís Fjóla might have inspired us all at one point. From 90s spearheads like Skunk Anansie, Radiohead and Cranberries, there was a streak in rock music that Aldís revisited constantly. She was musically raised by her older brother in grunge and rock, mainly by Pearl Jam and Metallica. From thrash titans to grunge mastodons, she studied and understood what made a song simmer. You better believe that she delivered.
Having lyrics ranging from the truth of depression, a steadfast approach to life and love-there is a soul to her music you would find difficult to find otherwise. As her brother got famous as a musician, she found guidance in writing music from Stefan Örn Gunnlaugsson, a songwriter and producer in Iceland. Forging her own route, her rock has an igneous, natural formation which will be a structure unlike any other.
Hailing from a small town called Borgarfjörður eystra in Iceland, she was raised by the radio and rock. Getting inspired by the sceneries and setting on the farm she grew up on, her channels for inspiration have been diverse.
With her 2020 debut album release, Shadows, she showed us the titan she can become in rock. Sounds inspired by her favourite bands transpired through her own upbringing gave a kick-ass sound that was new, even for her. With her 2022 release, Pipedreams, she visits grunge with her own take on the sound. You better bet you’ll hear this kind of sound only once.
