Yorige & Žemyna rejoin forces for some more folk and jazz fusion. This is an eclectic mix of artists you will never find before. However, if you want to bookmark and save their work, please do so. With some impressive collaborative singles, they come together for their latest album. This one is called Sodas.
They choose to unleash fantasy level magic with Mėnulio Šokis, which translates to be Moon Dance. Here, you’re on the path to feel energies that are otherworldly. Fusion of notes and flavours, textures and styles pour over for a fantastic brew. With a brilliant opening, a precedent has been set for their work. Next, comes Rakelė, using a new collection of tonal garlands to welcome you into the fold. Yorige & Žemyna have a neural connection unlike any other collaboration, almost replacing the pieces that the song requires and might fall redundant.
Through seasons of change
You’ll feel mesmerized by the kind of energy and flow, the way they approach the dance of melodies. Rudens daina flows in like the secret passage it is. A song for autumn, it purely signifies change with dazzling atmospheres. Yorige & Žemyna prepare you for the environment with their choice of notes and transitions.
Within these search of seasons, we feel rain. Lietus is the Lithuanian vernacular, and they change the seasons that soon. You’ll feel it from the drizzle of notes, to Yorige claiming the silence with her hauntingly gorgeous vocals. The production infuses some electronic percussion as well, creating a resounding atmosphere for their sound. Žydėjimas is the blooming navel of nature. It proceeds with some jazz infused elements, especially the electric guitar. You see the weather fold, create something otherworldly. These melodies connect to certain pockets of climate, moments of alteration and growth, decay and life. Capturing these feelings and fleeting shift in nature is something difficult. Yorige & Žemyna do it with class and a passion.
Yorige & Žemyna-Melody in nature
Vakaras takes us into dusk with the sounds. It is when the needles of time wind down in speed. Everything comes to rest eventually. The soothing ambience creates that, while Yorige draws us with her vocal execution. They are melodic pathways that will almost intoxicate you. Kalėdų Belaukiant was a single they had released, one of the first folk fusion instrumentals we had heard from this creative duo. It hits differently after this impressive flow, taking us through so many planes and atmospheres, decades of seasonal change.
The same collection is presented in instrumental format, leaving your imagination to be rich for the painting that swirl in front of you. With Sodas, this duo proves that they work equally hard in creating a rich, explorative background while preparing for the poetics in the lyrics. The result is this fantastic collection, something I urge you to keep listening to.
This would work fantastic in a documentary I had watched, The Baltic Forest and Moorland. Yorige and Žemyna do a fantastic job of providing imagery while crafting pictures of intangible elements. Listen to their music above and follow them for more!
