THE HYBRIS are a rock project who make music their primary objective. It is difficult to deal with the rest when all you want to be is creative, so their M.O is different. Enjoying the enigma of unidentified music objects, they are here for the sole purpose of soul refuelling rock. This is their latest single that does just that. Their latest single is called Impostor Syndrome.
We have all felt it at some time during our lives. It’s looking in a mirror or introspection to see self-esteem slowly break you. THE HYBRIS kick open the door with a unique rhythm, unlike anything you hear in mainstream rock. The lyrical flow is syncopated accordingly, creating some cool percussion twists and groove breaks. They edge on alt-rock, but mostly deal with giving us the raw power of their instruments. The vocals modulate energy, according to the delivery and theme. Shifting through planes, you hear some fascinating aspects that isn’t commonly used. The piano addition for the second repetition of the verse is a fun highlight. The guitar tone change for the chorus remains the favourite part of this song, a darker, fuzzier sound that seems to be almost on desert rock.
Though not on theme, I’d love to hear this in Trainspotting 2, especially given the energy. There is raw power to this track that can be connected with punk, but is more polished. I feel some scenes in John Wick could do with that dynamite chorus section as well. Their singles like What If & Keep the Wolves Away show wreckage with delicate detail to transitions. Listen to their uniquely composed tracks and be sure to follow them for a rock ride like no other!
