Sig And The Fire Pilots bring you the joy and ecstatic ornamentation of reggae. This is owing to a sound that defined a decade, roots that are widespread as the genres of music. Their music is ridiculously catchy, it brings a sense of groove with a tip of the hat to blues as well. We celebrate the miles of smiles of reggae with their latest single, Almost Out of Time.
It is an understatement to call their first release, Clickbait, a catchy tune. Thoroughly digging themselves a groove, they allow the melody to flood in. Almost Out of Time brings a dire message, but the tune plays the contrast. It is a work of art on a white wall, the spotlight unnecessary because of the play of colours. I was drawn to the bass line, following the melody while drawing out its own tributary. This type of high quality arrangement and chord progression is not a regular occurrence among “fresh” indie bands. Pitch perfect vocals with unfiltered delicacy show that this band sounds as good live as they do in their recordings. Get out your margarita mixer, lawn chair and watch society fade away while this song plays.
As an idiosyncrasy, I would like to use this track in The Purge (2013). It would make for a humorous fixture, and the chaos would be sound tracked by something unique. Sig And The Fire Pilots are pushing the envelope of a genre forgotten. Listen to their single and follow them, for they are just getting started.
