Nai’a-Newman Beauty
In many ways, Nai’a makes compositions like Jeff Buckley. We might have lost the legendary musician early, but this is proof that his spirit lives on. With delicate, well composed and curated moments flowing into songs, it is difficult to not be mesmerized by this man’s art. In clutch seconds, you feel like you’re not worthy to listen to his angelic voice. This is his latest single, Newman Beauty.
Modulation with voice is an art unlike any other. With a multi-instrumentalist or composer-you have several ways to show how music flows through you. As a singer, Nai’a is a standard example for more reasons than one. His vocals here might even remind you of Sarah McLachlan, in her underrated album tracks. The enjoyment is in how these lyrics are delivered, showcasing the contrast of something that is an idealistic image and the reality involved. It is a gorgeous track to listen to in essence, and as a composition. The chord transitions are smooth and lucid, and emanate the aura of this song. It lives and breathes with this abstract image, something that we give meaning and wanes away in time. As complex as the emotion might be, the truth of the song is simple.
This would be an elegant fit in the closing sequence of Vanilla Sky. What I felt was received poorly due to its timing has wonderful messages spread out through the movie. The essence itself, might be captured in the intent of this song. You can listen to more of Nai’a in London and American Football Player, among others. There is a soul to his song that transcends time.
