Kid Lazuras introduces us to a mansion of musical genius in Utopia and each song feels like a room with a decore of its own. He packs a real kicker with this rock-infused beast of an album. The track-list feels like an agile jungle that waits, baits and pounces at you and you can’t help but feel captured by its measured and agile movement. Fall For The Break and Kid Lazuras

The album begins with Fall For The Break which slowly lures you in, literally. The track carries a different texture to it, with its slowness, and its layered duet vocals as well. The song is a wonderful trap that sets you up for safety and then, bam! Before you know it, you’re strapped in and the roller coaster has gone off in the next song in Men Of God. Which by the way feels like an infectious train chug that crescendos into an anthem like tune. 

Lazuras’s Utopia

While each song has a specialness that it brings to the table, Utopia is a song that truly sets the tone and the framework for the album. With its simmering electric guitar and the bubbling that goes on till 1 minute and 58 seconds into the song. And through that one minute, Lazuras have your attention by the hair with their gritty sense of melody. 

Words Are Just Another Way

Speaking of passion and strings, there comes a point when he truly shifts things up with Refuge. The strings on this almost sound similar to a Santur or even a Sitar adding a distinguishable sound that falls new to the ears. After this Velvety track and more, he ends with Words Are Just Another Way To Hide. This, much like the first track is a statement. He sends a message with this order of song placement, reminding us of the politicalness of the album. This really opens your eyes to the detailing that is poured into producing the song. The precision to interact with the audience is truly brilliant and must be applauded.

Utopia would work so well in My Own Private Idaho. The film has a vast landscape of emotions that can hold the variety of themes and soundscapes that Lazuras gives us. Kid Lazuras paints a world that is similar to ours but with a heightened sense of reality. This is only because each song feels like a zoom into some aspect while the other does the same for another aspect of life. The lush soundscape is comfortably unsettling. This is only because you don’t know what to expect in terms of sound even past the halfway mark. Although there is a definite theme, it is hard to explain in words but sits so deep in the body.
