Jack Pavlina uses music as medicine, and more. His way of writing is just expression, in every and all forms. Like any other person, the full range of emotions he feels have to be expressed. Jack seems to have the gift to do it musically, through rhyme and prose. In melodies, he drowns his maladies. This is his latest brilliant single, END.
A four chord change is the most effective. Sure, it might lead to a legal dispute worth millions, but it tells a story. Jack Pavlina uses one which expresses a lot of emotions, stoicism and maybe even melancholy. His words and verses are those off of a diary-torn pages with the ink bleeding through the song. The crisp strumming and miniscule flourishes along with his soft, approachable voice are all the warmth this song needs. For the chorus, a soft, almost a wisp of ambient expression is heard, the energy radiating mostly from his words, voice and strumming. There is no reason to question why you’ll love this song. The temperature, tempo and style shifts suddenly in the song, in a click. You might even feel you’re in another track. However, the fingerprints are all Jack’s.
I could imagine this working well in the show, This is Us. Apart from stellar writing, this show also brings forward emotional dichotomies explored in a mature way. Though each of Jack’s songs has a unique premise, some of my favourite are Tight Rope and MISS U MORE. Listen to his fantastic single here and follow him for more like this!
