Jack Miller authentically produces his songs with an aloof beat structure that both blends in and contrasts the verses he raps. The 22 year old rapper is based in New Jersey, he previously released a set of singles named Bedroom Bops. “I Don’t Got Time” happens to be one of them. This song could be a Tik Tok trend, as the beginning is a funny talk through of him finding the rhythm.
Insomniac Lane is Jack Miller’s latest release has a new wave- too cool for school energy. The beat is reminiscent of “Cry me a river” by Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. The electric guitar chord playing and layering in the beginning, creates a vintage atmosphere. Much like the lyrics “Took a left down Insomniac lane” the song swerves into him seamlessly drifting into his rap-verse. He raps about wanting to dream and rest but physically not being able to do so. His mind seems to be too loud, bursting with ideas and thoughts. He goes on to make a cheeky little reference to Van Gogh and the Starry Night here. Jack Miller does a good job at breaking down the state of mental health. He doesn’t do this with a fiery beat, it’s done more so with a crisp cool shrug which feels like a trademark style for Jack Miller.
With the slow intro of the song, it would sit perfectly well with an all male version of Skate Kitchen by Crystal Moselle. The way he casually weaves words while spitting truth bombs helps naturally enhance a scene’s ambiance. This pairs well with the laid back tune making way to amp up the teenage angst. I would also want to see a male version of this, simply to see what a tampon dilemma would be for young male adults.
Jack Miller already has over 300,000 listeners and sure to gain more with his breesy unhinged nature of rapping and a class production quality.
