On the surface, you might feel as though the song arrangement in this album is a random dice-throw. But once you start paying attention to the pace and the beat patterns of the song, you find that it is a lot more meticulously placed. And Sinner is the perfect start to the journey that Derek takes us on. It is the perfect taster that is full of flavor while also not giving too much away. The banjo-sounding instrument has you imagining a whole new world sculpted by Derek. 

Underdog

Everything is jolly and fun until we run into Underdog. The vibes of the album take a serious tone from here on out. He obviously speaks of the underdog. Everything, right from the instruments used, to the beat pattern and the vocals, Derek has this down. You can hear the intensity build. And he does this by using his cool as a cat baritone to deliver this wonderful track. He builds the pulse of the track to a great extent, you can feel your heart rate beat to the same tempo as the track.

Struck By Lightning Again

You know Derek knows his cinematic value when you hear the way the arrangement ebb and flow. Up until now, you hear the intense, but now you put your fun socks back on in Struck By Lightning Again and this energy is maintained until we get to Lost and Alone Again. This highlights the cycle of dating and love in general. This is genius, in my opinion, you build a connection with the listeners on a whole new level.

A series that does the same and more with their music and frame selection is Peaky Blinders. The series is a chef’s kiss to cinema land in general. There are so many frames that can pulled out of this series and dissected and you would learn so much. And Struck By Lightning Again is the perfect addition to the series.
