Chucky Trading Co. has always been a master at playing around with R&B and folk like no other. He now brings us his freshest and most compelling musical release- Tumbleweeds. The song is a heartfelt guitar and vocal rendition. The magnetic number seamlessly blends folk and R&B, resulting in a sound that leaves you feeling strangely moved and lonely.
Tumbleweeds begins with a striking guitar and piano combo. We then hear Laurel’s angelic voice make its entrance. The song is about a friend he valued deeply, enough to call him a brother. But this friend seems to have gone to a place from which you cannot return. “I’m chasing tumbleweed no matter where they go, the only sign you passed this way is the shadow of a crow.” we have a billion songs of female friendships but to listen to men sing tenderly of their friendship is truly eye-opening and moving. The heartbreaking tribute seamlessly weaves together a story filled with a lot of soul. The production did a brilliant job because we hear Laurel’s voice float effortlessly above the rich instrumental arrangement.
This song would work incredibly well in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It feels as if the song was tailor-made for the movie because we have Ben Stiller in search of Walter Mitty in the film and just can’t seem to find him. Laurel Canyon aka Chucky Trading Co. is a great poet and an even better singer and songwriter. Most of his songs are proof of that but this one? It takes the cake. That’s is because male friendships is an area that is not very well explored. I hope the whole team that contributed to the song take a bow because this is a masterpiece of its time.
